Kathmandu – Vinay Yadav, the founder-chairman of the National Unity Campaign, has officially entered parliamentary politics through a citizen-led movement. Unlike certain candidates, often referred to as ‘tourist candidates,’ who appear only during elections without any emotional or cultural connection to the local geography and issues, Yadav’s strong local presence and grassroots engagement have been widely acknowledged.
The National Unity Party, which Yadav declared in January 2026, has prioritized key agendas such as the revival of the Hindu nation, national pride, and anti-corruption measures. Holding a Master’s degree in Political Science (MA), Yadav has described his candidacy as a fight for “Defensive Sovereignty” and the protection of Hindu rights.
Tough Competition in Bara-4
Bara-4 is witnessing a fierce electoral contest this year, with 39 candidates registered from 20 political parties and 19 independent candidates. Yadav will compete against notable candidates, including CPN-UML’s Kisan Shrestha, National Independent Party (Raswapa)’s Rahbar Ansari, Nepali Congress’s Shyam Babu Gupta, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)’s Dilip Kumar Nepal. Additionally, former IGP of Police, Sarbendra Khanal, from the National Change Party, and Samim Miya Ansari from the Rastriya Nirman Dal have also entered the race.
Political Journey Influenced by Childhood Events
Born on 25th Shrawan, 2040 B.S. (1983 AD) in a simple farming family in Lipani, Parwanipur, Bara, Yadav’s political journey has been deeply influenced by violent events he witnessed in his childhood. He recalls an incident when he was in class 6 at Janata Secondary School, where, under the direction of then-CPN-ML leader Salim Ansari, an attack occurred on Nagendra Gupta from Rampur. Gupta lost one eye, and the incident left a profound impact on Yadav’s psyche, shaping his views on politics and justice.
Similarly, in 2056 B.S., Yadav was injured in a scuffle over land encroachment at a temple site in Chapkaiya, Birgunj. These formative experiences led him to join the Hindu Volunteers’ Association during his school years and actively participate in the defense of Hindu religion and human rights.

Anti-Corruption and External Interference Agenda
In his electoral campaign, Yadav has brought attention to the alleged corruption in the construction of Pokhara International Airport, a matter currently under investigation. His leadership of the National Unity Campaign from 2022 to 2026 also saw him take a firm stance against Chinese intervention in Nepal, including submitting memoranda to the UN and the Nepal government regarding alleged border encroachments in Humla and Gorkha. He was even arrested during a protest against Chinese leader Li Chansu’s visit. His political agenda includes opposing the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ (BRI) agreement and advocating for the abolition of the Muslim Commission.
‘Tourist Candidates’ and Local-Born Vinay Yadav
Political analysts argue that, unlike many other candidates in Bara-4, Yadav is a true ‘local-born’ figure with deep-rooted ties to the area’s soil and community. Some of the other candidates are seen as ‘tourist candidates’—individuals who have either moved from India or elsewhere with the sole intention of winning elections, without any real emotional or cultural connection to the locality. Some are even accused of gaining citizenship through their fathers’ naturalized status in Nepal, and only recently relocating to the area. In contrast, Yadav’s strong local presence and ongoing community engagement make him a more genuine choice for the electorate, according to political experts.
