Putin: Russia Ready to Support Iran’s Peaceful Nuclear Development Amid Rising Tensions

Putin: Russia Ready to Support Iran’s Peaceful Nuclear Development Amid Rising Tensions

St. Petersburg. Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia is prepared to support Iran’s peaceful nuclear development while addressing Israel’s security concerns, as regional tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate.

Speaking without revealing specific details, Putin confirmed that Russia has held in-depth discussions on the matter with both Israeli and American officials and has submitted proposals to its Iranian counterparts.

“In principle, it is possible to meet Iran’s interest in peaceful nuclear energy while also addressing Israel’s legitimate national security concerns,” Putin said during an event in St. Petersburg.

He added that Russia has proposed what he described as a “potential solution” to ease tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities, but emphasized that the final decision rests with the political leadership of the countries involved.

Putin highlighted the strong trust between Russia and Iran, saying it enables productive cooperation in the peaceful application of nuclear technology, including in agriculture and medicine.

He recalled Russia’s long-standing involvement in Iran’s civilian nuclear program, specifically mentioning the Bushehr nuclear power plant. Originally designed by German firms, the project was later completed by Russia’s state atomic energy corporation, Rosatom.

“It was a challenge to adapt the German design to Russian standards, but we succeeded. The plant is now operating successfully,” Putin said.

He also confirmed that Russia has signed an agreement to construct two additional reactor units at Bushehr, with more than 200 Russian experts currently working on-site. To ensure safety amid the ongoing conflict, Moscow has reportedly reached agreements with Israeli authorities.

The announcement comes as tensions soar following Israel’s June 13 launch of “Operation Rising Lion,” which targeted Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Iran has responded with retaliatory strikes, and both sides have reported casualties over the past several days.
