Rautahat: A dispute over road expansion in Sarlahi escalated into a violent clash between two groups, leaving at least 10 people injured, including a police inspector. Authorities were forced to fire a round into the air to control the situation.
The conflict began on Thursday when a woman from Khaira Tole in Barhathwa Municipality–4 protested against road construction, claiming it encroached upon her land. Locals reportedly removed her from the site, leading to rising tensions that culminated in a clash on Friday morning, according to Sarlahi District Police Office.
Among those injured were Inspector Diwakar Ganesh and Senior Constable Prameshwar Ray Yadav, both stationed at the Barhathwa Area Police Office. Inspector Ganesh sustained an injury to his arm, confirmed Inspector Balister Singh.
Other injured individuals include 50-year-old Tikabahadur Karki, 52-year-old Kulbahadur Karki, 42-year-old Ramesh Mahato Kohari, his wife 38-year-old Indu Devi, and their sons — 28-year-old Anil Kushwaha and 26-year-old Pradeep Kumar Kushwaha. Additionally, 35-year-old Umesh Mahato and 35-year-old Sanjay Kushwaha from Barhathwa–14 were also injured.
All the injured are undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Barhathwa.
Police have taken several individuals into custody for questioning. The District Police Office has stated that the situation is now under control and returning to normal.
