Kathmandu: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to mark a world record today by leading a mass yoga session with the participation of over 300,000 people, as part of the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations.
The massive event is being held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, where Prime Minister Modi is participating in a record-breaking gathering that aims to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest yoga session ever held.
Addressing the event, PM Modi hailed yoga as a timeless gift that transcends age, borders, and cultures, uniting humanity in health and harmony. He urged the global community to adopt the concept of “inner peace” achieved through yoga as a “universal policy,” transforming yoga into a shared global responsibility.
“Yoga should not be seen merely as a personal or cultural practice, but as a unifying force for humanity,” Modi said. “Let this International Yoga Day be marked as the beginning of yoga for humanity. A day when inner peace becomes global policy, and yoga becomes a powerful tool for international partnership and unity.”
The event in Visakhapatnam is part of a series of yoga sessions taking place across India and the world. Senior Indian leaders, civil servants, military personnel, and social activists have participated in ceremonies nationwide.
International Yoga Day was first recognized by the United Nations in June 2014, and since then, it has been celebrated globally every year on June 21. Over time, yoga has become a widespread global practice known for connecting human health with nature and promoting physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
