Nigeria: At least 34 soldiers have been killed and 14 others injured in a deadly assault on a Nigerian military base near the Mali border in the country’s southwestern region. The attack, reportedly carried out by the Islamic State (ISIS), has raised fresh concerns over regional security.
According to a statement released by Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence on Friday, the attack occurred on Thursday in the Bani Bangou area. Heavily armed militants used eight vehicles and over 200 motorcycles to storm the military outpost.
In response, Nigerian forces launched both aerial and ground surveillance operations to secure the area and track the assailants. The Ministry also noted that additional details are awaited as the situation continues to unfold.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the assault in a statement published through its media channels.
The scale and coordination of the attack underscore the escalating threat of extremist violence in the region and highlight the urgent need for heightened vigilance and strategic response from regional security forces.
