Kathmandu – US President Donald Trump has clarified his stance on the issue of regime change in Iran, saying he does not want to see a government overthrow in the country.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while en route to the NATO Summit in The Hague, Netherlands, President Trump responded to a direct question about Iran’s leadership.
When asked, “Do you want to see regime change in Iran?” Trump replied, “No, I don’t want that. I want things to calm down as soon as possible.”
Trump further explained, “Regime change often brings chaos, and ideally, we don’t want to see that much chaos.”
The comments come amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, with recent military conflicts raising concerns globally.
When asked about Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, President Trump stated, “We’re not looking to remove him, at least not at this point.”
Trump’s remarks indicate a preference for de-escalation over direct intervention, despite the ongoing conflict and pressure from some US political circles for a tougher stance against Iran’s leadership.
