Kathmandu – Tensions between Iran and Israel remain high even after the recent ceasefire, as Iran executed three individuals this morning for allegedly spying for Israel and plotting assassinations.
According to Reuters, Iran’s judiciary released an official statement naming the executed individuals as Idris Ali, Azad Shojai, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul. The trio was accused of attempting to smuggle assassination equipment into Iran.
The executions were carried out on Wednesday morning in the northwestern city of Urmia, near the Turkish border. Iranian state media confirmed the execution and released photographs showing the three convicts dressed in blue prison uniforms.
This is not the first time Iran has taken such action. The Iranian government routinely announces arrests and death sentences for individuals accused of spying for Israel or other foreign intelligence agencies.
Following the outbreak of war between Iran and Israel on June 13, 2025, Iranian authorities had warned of swift and severe action against anyone found working for Israeli intelligence services.
In line with this, several individuals were executed earlier this week on Sunday and Monday on similar charges.
State-affiliated media outlet Noor News reported that during the recent 12-day Iran-Israel war, Iran detained around 700 individuals accused of having links with Israel.
Reuters noted that the detainees are accused of collaborating with Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, sharing classified information, and assisting in targeting Iranian military facilities.
Iranian authorities are currently interrogating many of the arrested individuals, and reports suggest that more executions could follow soon. In earlier statements, Iran had alleged the existence of extensive internal spy networks working for Israel during wartime operations.
