New Delhi – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday at Hyderabad House, where the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions ahead of the 23rd India–Russia Summit.
During the talks, Prime Minister Modi conveyed India’s clear message on the Russia–Ukraine conflict. “India is not neutral; India stands for peace,” Modi said, stressing that the war must end immediately. He reiterated that the only viable solution lies in dialogue and diplomatic efforts. “The world needs peace again. India supports every initiative that promotes peace,” he added.
President Putin, in response, stated that Russia, too, is working toward a peaceful resolution of the crisis. The leaders’ meeting concluded shortly before the formal summit, where more than 25 agreements between the two nations are expected to be signed.
Earlier in the morning, President Putin was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, including a 21-gun salute and a Guard of Honour. He later visited Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
Prime Minister Modi also praised President Putin’s leadership, noting their 25-year association. He remarked that the enduring India–Russia friendship reflects how visionary leadership can strengthen long-standing bilateral relations. Modi said Putin’s guidance has further deepened trust and cooperation between the two countries.
