Nawalparasi, Nepal – Prime Minister Sushila Karki has confirmed that if weather conditions do not cooperate, elections in Himalayan districts will be held in two phases. Speaking after participating in the closing ceremony of a National Service Council training program in Kawasoti Municipality-1, Hattikhora, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), Prime Minister Karki assured the media that the government would provide the necessary support for the elections, and if needed, second-phase elections would be conducted in mountainous regions.
Prime Minister Karki said, “The government will provide all the necessary support for the elections, and if the weather in the Himalayan districts is not favorable, we will conduct the elections in two phases.”
She added that for areas with low voter turnout, the government would even arrange for vehicles to help transport voters to polling stations, ensuring that the election takes place. However, she also stated that if it became impossible to hold elections in certain areas, the government might consider conducting the elections in the second phase.
She reassured the public that no decision has been made to postpone the elections, and called on everyone to actively participate in the elections scheduled for Magh 21 (February 21).
Prime Minister Karki expressed confidence that after the election, the newly elected representatives will take charge of the state and lead the country towards a new direction. She said, “We have made every effort to ensure that the election is peaceful. It will take place in a fear-free environment.”
Acknowledging that the elections are being held under special circumstances, she admitted there might be some challenges but emphasized that solutions will be found to ensure the election is conducted smoothly.
Her comments highlight the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the election process despite potential obstacles posed by challenging weather conditions in remote regions.
