Siraha: Local youths have staged a protest in Siraha, accusing concerned authorities of negligence despite repeated road accidents along various sections of the Hulaki Highway in the district.
The protesters expressed anger over the continuous loss of human lives, alleging that adequate safety measures have not been adopted even as accidents keep occurring. They said the authorities have failed to take the issue seriously.
During the protest, youths burned effigies of Prime Minister Sushil Karki, Siraha’s Chief District Officer, and Hulaki Highway construction contractor Kishori Kalam Sah as a symbol of their dissatisfaction.
The demonstrators claimed that the rising number of accidents is mainly due to the poor and disorganized condition of the road, lack of necessary traffic signs, and negligence in construction works.
They demanded immediate road improvements, proper traffic management, and accountability from the responsible bodies. Warning of stronger protests ahead, the youths said they would intensify their movement if authorities fail to take prompt action.
