Janakpurdham, June 6, 2025 — Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has announced that a Congress-led government will soon be formed in Madhesh Province, signaling a potential shift in the region’s political landscape.
Speaking at a party gathering in Janakpurdham, Deuba stated, “The Nepali Congress is in the final stages of alliance building. Very soon, we will lead the government in Madhesh and deliver on the promises made to the people.”
His announcement comes amid growing dissatisfaction within the current ruling coalition led by the Janamat Party and supported by CPN-UML. Reports of internal conflict and instability have intensified in recent weeks.
Deuba emphasized that the Congress party has always stood by the people of Madhesh and remains committed to inclusive development, federalism, and safeguarding democratic values. “Madhesh has always been a stronghold of the Nepali Congress, and we will ensure the voices of the people here are heard at the provincial level,” he added.
Sources within the Congress party confirm that negotiations are underway with other key regional forces, including the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), in an effort to form a majority alliance in the provincial assembly.
Political analysts say Deuba’s declaration could set the stage for significant changes in Madhesh politics, especially if coalition talks succeed in unseating the current government.
More developments are expected in the coming days as backdoor negotiations and party meetings continue.
