President Trump deploys 2,000 more National Guard troops as tensions rise in Los Angeles

President Trump deploys 2,000 more National Guard troops as tensions rise in Los Angeles

Washington D.C., June 10, 2025 — Amid growing unrest and escalating tensions in Los Angeles, former President Donald Trump has announced the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to the city, citing the need to “restore law and order and protect American communities.”

The decision comes in response to a surge in protests and civil disturbances that have rocked parts of Los Angeles over the past several days. While the exact cause of the unrest remains under investigation, reports point to a combination of political, economic, and social grievances fueling public outrage.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, Trump said, “We will not tolerate chaos in our streets. The National Guard is being deployed to support local law enforcement, protect lives and property, and ensure peace is restored.”

This marks the second wave of federal troop deployment to Los Angeles in recent days, bringing the total number of National Guard personnel in the region to nearly 5,000. Armored vehicles and military convoys were seen entering key parts of the city, including downtown and South L.A., under heavy security.

Local officials have expressed mixed reactions. While some leaders welcomed the federal assistance, others voiced concern about the potential for increased tensions and clashes between troops and demonstrators.

“The presence of military personnel on our streets should never be a first resort,” said Los Angeles Mayor Karen Brooks. “We urge all parties to remain peaceful and focus on dialogue, not confrontation.”

Human rights organizations have also raised alarms, warning that a militarized response could escalate the situation further. Civil liberties groups are closely monitoring developments and have called for transparency and restraint from all security forces.

As the situation continues to unfold, curfews remain in effect in several parts of the city, and schools and businesses have been temporarily closed. President Trump has signaled that further deployments could be made if the violence continues.

Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and avoid protest zones, as law enforcement and National Guard units work to regain control.
