Ahmedabad: A person injured in a plane crash in Ahmedabad has been rescued and sent for treatment, police said.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik confirmed that an Air India plane crashed into a nearby doctors’ hostel shortly after takeoff and that one person was found alive in the incident.
The Boeing 787/8 Dreamliner aircraft, flying to London, crashed at 1:30 a.m. shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking to ANI over the phone, Malik said, “The police have found a person alive in seat 11A. He is undergoing treatment in the hospital.” According to the report, the name of the person rescued alive is Vishwas Kumar Ramesh.
Malik added, “It is not possible to say anything about the death toll. The death toll may increase as the plane crashed in a residential area.”
Police say the chances of other passengers surviving are very low. So far, more than 200 bodies have been found. There were 242 people on board, including two pilots and 10 crew members. Of these, one person was rescued alive.
According to Air India, flight number AI 171, which was bound for London’s Gatwick, was carrying 169 Indians, 53 Britons, one Canadian and seven Portuguese nationals.
