Kathmandu – A heated commotion broke out in Nepal’s House of Representatives following controversial remarks by independent lawmaker Dr. Amresh Kumar Singh, who suggested leasing Nepal to another country. His statement triggered immediate backlash from political parties and lawmakers.
Mahesh Bartola, Chief Whip of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), strongly objected to Singh’s remarks, calling them objectionable and traitorous. Other ruling party MPs also stood up in protest, intensifying the uproar.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire declared that Singh’s comments were against the national interest and ordered the remarks to be struck off the official record. In response, Singh angrily claimed that the Speaker belonged solely to UML, implying bias.
Targeting UML, Singh accused the party of betraying the nation, which further fueled protests and slogans from ruling party members.
As tensions escalated, Speaker Ghimire instructed Singh to leave the podium and take his seat. This directive came after Singh ignored earlier rulings from the Speaker.
The incident reflects growing political discord and heightened sensitivity over national sovereignty issues within Nepal’s parliamentary proceedings.
