Kathmandu: The BRICS group—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—has expressed serious concern over the ongoing military attacks against Iran.
In a joint statement, BRICS said, “We express grave concern over the military aggression against Iran since June 13. This attack violates international law and the United Nations Charter.”
The group also urged all parties to continue dialogue and diplomacy to resolve differences peacefully.
This statement from BRICS comes amid reports that India distanced itself from a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) declaration criticizing Israel over attacks on Iran. However, India has not distanced itself from the BRICS statement.
The group further stated, “We are deeply concerned about any attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities that violate international law and relevant International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) resolutions.”
The recent attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites were carried out by the United States and Israel.
Originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the BRICS group has since expanded to include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia.
