Siraha: The Madhesh Province Government has allocated Rs 10 million (NPR 1 crore) in its upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 budget for the construction of a long-awaited bridge over the Kamala River, connecting Siraha and Dhanusha districts.
For years, especially during the monsoon season, locals have faced severe difficulties crossing the river due to the absence of a permanent bridge. The bridge construction project has remained incomplete for the past 14 years, forcing residents to cross the river through risky and makeshift bamboo structures.
This initiative has gained momentum following the intervention of Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh. “Constructing the Kamala River Bridge is not just a necessity for Dhanusha and Siraha, but for the entire Madhesh Province. We are committed to moving this project forward with determination,” Chief Minister Singh said.
He acknowledged that the allocated Rs 10 million is insufficient for completing the entire project but assured that additional funds will be managed in phases as required.
Indrajit Yadav, Ward Chairman of Siraha Municipality-6, welcomed the allocation, saying, “Even though the budget is limited, the inclusion of the Kamala Bridge in the provincial budget is a positive step. However, the federal government should also extend its support to complete the project.”
The partially constructed bridge, which has remained in a dilapidated state for years, often forces locals to rely on temporary bamboo crossings during the rainy season.
