Siraha: A 34-year-old Dalit youth, identified as Ajay Mahara, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Budhiyachap village of Arnama Rural Municipality-1, Siraha.
His body was discovered near the paddy field of local resident Munif Ali Mansuri, approximately one kilometer away from Mahara’s home. The body was found next to a watchtower (machan) built in the field for crop monitoring.
Locals, after spotting the body on Saturday morning, immediately informed the police. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Birendra Paswan, spokesperson for the District Police Office Siraha, a police team reached the site and started an investigation soon after receiving the information.
The scene has raised serious suspicions. The victim’s neck was reportedly tightly wrapped with plastic material, suggesting possible foul play. An empty alcohol bottle and a glass were also found near the body.
As per local sources, Ajay Mahara was at home until late Friday night. He reportedly left the house around 9 PM after informing his wife but never returned. The sudden discovery of his body the next morning has shocked the community.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem to Siraha Provincial Hospital. Though the investigation is underway, police have so far not found any concrete leads regarding the cause or motive behind Mahara’s death.
Mahara, a daily wage laborer, was the sole breadwinner for his family, leaving behind a wife and two sons. The case remains under serious investigation as locals demand justice and clarity over the incident.
