Birgunj — Security measures have been significantly tightened in Parsa and Bara districts after reports indicated an increased risk of Bangladeshi and Rohingya nationals entering Nepal illegally via India.
According to a notice issued on Wednesday by the Parsa District Administration Office, surveillance has been intensified after various media reports and memorandums suggested a rise in the movement of unidentified individuals near border points. Assistant Chief District Officer Binod Kumar Pokharel stated that strict checking is underway at all entry points, including Birgunj.
The administration has also instructed the public not to provide shelter or employment to strangers or suspicious individuals and to immediately inform the nearest security agency if such persons are encountered.
Due to the heightened risk, similar vigilance has been adopted in Bara district, which shares a 60-kilometer open border with India. The Bara District Administration Office has directed all security agencies to maintain special surveillance. Assistant Chief District Officer Chaviram Bhattarai said that 90 locations identified as easy crossing points are now under 24-hour patrol.
He added that suspicious activities have been observed at the Simraungadh border point in recent days, prompting security agencies to become even more alert. “We are on high alert after receiving information that third-country nationals may attempt to infiltrate Nepal using Indian territory,” Bhattarai said.
Officials from both districts emphasized that cooperation from local residents is crucial to prevent illegal entry. They urged people living in border areas to notify security forces immediately if they notice any unusual activity.
