KATHMANDU — Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed the Home Minister to conduct a detailed investigation into the tragic death of a young woman in Bardia, who reportedly took her own life after being unable to obtain citizenship.
The Prime Minister shared the directive through a Facebook post on Friday, stating that she had instructed the Home Minister to uncover the facts surrounding the incident.
According to PM Karki, a young woman from Dakshin Bhakari village in Badhiyaatal-4, Bardia, died while struggling for citizenship, and her 61-year-old father also passed away a month later — a tragedy that she said left her deeply saddened.
“Their decision is a matter of shame for our society and the state. If this situation arose due to judicial or administrative complications, then as the Prime Minister, I apologize,” she wrote.
Reiterating that any form of discrimination or violence based on citizenship issues or gender will not be tolerated, PM Karki urged all concerned authorities to ensure support and facilitation in the pursuit of justice.
