KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, has urged opposition candidates to compete against him in elections confidently and without fear, saying that his party does not practice politics of intimidation.
Speaking at a press meet organized in Damak, Jhapa, on Monday, Oli said that UML welcomes healthy electoral competition and that anyone wishing to contest against him should do so without hesitation. He made the remarks ahead of his visit to his home district, Jhapa.
Oli said some individuals appear eager to file candidacies against him simply to gain public attention, adding that he views electoral competition as a natural part of democracy.
Highlighting development works in Jhapa, Oli claimed that the district has witnessed extraordinary progress in sectors such as education, health, drinking water, and infrastructure during his leadership.
He also said preparations are underway for agricultural modernization and the establishment of industries, noting that district-level plans are being implemented with mechanization to generate large-scale employment opportunities.
Oli asserted that parties other than the UML lack clear development plans, emphasizing that only UML has a concrete vision for growth and prosperity.
In addition, Oli criticized the government for what he described as indifference toward maintaining peace and security, stating that the country needs a stronger and more responsible approach in this area.
