Rautahat: A complaint has been filed at the Election Officer’s Office in Gaur demanding the cancellation of the candidacy of former Prime Minister and Co-Coordinator of the Nepal Communist Party, Madhav Kumar Nepal, from Rautahat Constituency No. 1.
The complaint was lodged by Ram Naresh Yadav, a House of Representatives candidate from the same constituency. In his complaint, Yadav claimed that a corruption case against Nepal is currently under consideration, making him ineligible to contest the election.
According to the complaint, Nepal is facing a corruption case at the Special Court in Kathmandu related to the Patanjali Yogpeeth land scandal and is currently under suspension. Yadav argued that under the House of Representatives Election Act, 2017, and Section 17 of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Act, 1991, individuals against whom corruption cases have been filed and who are under suspension are legally disqualified from contesting elections.
“Since a legally ineligible person cannot contest an election, Madhav Kumar Nepal’s candidacy should be canceled in accordance with the law,” Yadav stated.
The Election Officer’s Office has confirmed that the complaint has been registered and said that necessary legal procedures and investigations have been initiated. As per the election schedule, the office will examine the claim and objections and announce its decision within the next few days.
So far, no official response has been made public from Madhav Kumar Nepal’s side regarding the complaint.
