Kathmandu:
To ensure reliable security arrangements for the upcoming election of members of the House of Representatives, the Kathmandu District Police Range has begun joint patrols across the capital.
According to Kathmandu District Police Chief Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramesh Thapa, joint patrols involving sniffer dogs have been launched during night and early morning hours in line with decisions made by the District Security Committee and the Kathmandu Police Range.
“Checks with sniffer dogs have been intensified to identify narcotics and explosive materials,” SSP Thapa said while speaking at a press conference held at the police range on Tuesday. He added that police have also been conducting surprise checks at various locations.
SSP Thapa informed that suspicious individuals are being detained during security checks and released only after detailed investigations. “We have started joint patrols involving the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police in sensitive areas,” he said, adding that integrated patrols are being carried out along different routes.
The police chief further clarified that security deployment is being carried out based on intelligence gathering related to anti-election activities and groups or forces that may attempt to disrupt the electoral process.
