Kathmandu: Thirty-five Nepali youths who were lured with promises of attractive jobs and later held captive in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, India, have been rescued, according to the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi.
The rescue operation was carried out on Asar 5 (June 19) following reports of physical assault and extortion under various pretexts. Acting on directives from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassy coordinated with Uttarakhand Police and the Indian NGO “Kin India” to free the victims.
The embassy stated that the captors had allegedly beaten and tortured the youths while extracting money from them. Following the rescue, several individuals involved in the case have been arrested by Uttarakhand Police, and further investigations are ongoing.
Authorities are also searching for other Nepali nationals who may be similarly detained in different parts of Uttarakhand. The rescued individuals will be repatriated to Nepal after completing necessary legal formalities, the embassy confirmed.
