Kathmandu – U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on the possibility of regime change in Iran on Monday, stirring debate following recent military actions against Iranian nuclear sites.
On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Regime change is not politically correct to say, but if the current Iranian government cannot make Iran great again, then why not have regime change? Make Iran great again.”
However, earlier on Sunday, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth clarified during a press conference that the recent airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities were not aimed at regime change.
He stated, “This was not intended to change the regime, and there is no such objective at this time.”
Similarly, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance told ABC News on Sunday, “First and foremost, we do not want regime change. We want to end Iran’s nuclear program.”
On Sunday, the United States carried out strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Iranian officials confirmed that these sites were targeted but rejected claims of significant damage resulting from the attacks.
The situation remains tense as global attention focuses on the evolving conflict and its broader implications.
