Kathmandu: Umesh Makwana, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Botad, Gujarat, has resigned from his position as the party’s National General Secretary.
After submitting his resignation, Makwana stated, “I worked in various roles within the BJP for 20 years. When no one in Gujarat knew AAP, I left the ruling BJP and joined AAP. However, I now feel that we are drifting away from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s principles. For this reason, I have resigned from all positions in the Aam Aadmi Party.”
He further added, “I will continue to work as a party activist. I will go among the people of Botad and meet some individuals to discuss whether or not to form a separate party.”
Makwana resigned from his party position within 72 hours of winning the by-election from Visavadar seat as an AAP candidate. He said, “The party is moving away from its original ideology. It is advancing like the BJP by neglecting marginalized and Dalit communities. Because the party is distancing itself from the ideals of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh, I am resigning from my party position. However, I will continue to work as an activist and remain an MLA.”
