Janakpur: The Madhesh Provincial Assembly on Saturday observed the Province Naming and Capital Establishment Memorial Day to commemorate the day Madhesh Province was officially named and Janakpur was designated as its capital.
Province No. 2 was formally named Madhesh Province on Magh 3, a date regarded as historic. Marking the occasion, Speaker of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly Ram Ashish Yadav planted saplings within the assembly परिसर as part of a tree plantation program.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Yadav said that the naming of Madhesh Province and the designation of Janakpur as its capital symbolized federalism in Nepal. He also stated that the developments of this day helped institutionalize the republican system. While only a plantation program was organized this year, he informed that more elaborate celebrations would be held on this day from next year onward.
During the program, Speaker Yadav honored former Speaker Saroj Kumar Yadav by draping him with a ceremonial gamchha. The plantation event was attended by former Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav, Finance Minister Mahesh Prasad Yadav, and several members of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly.
