Kathmandu: Fourteen former international cricket captains from five countries have written to the government of Pakistan expressing concern over the health of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been in जेल since August 2023.
The letter, signed by prominent cricket figures including Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Greg Chappell, Belinda Clark, Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain, Ian Chappell, Allan Border, Mike Brearley, David Gower, Kim Hughes, Clive Lloyd, Steve Waugh and John Wright, has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ensure that Khan receives proper medical treatment.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, none of the former Pakistani cricket captains signed the letter. However, last week several former Pakistani cricketers, including Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shahid Afridi, took to social media demanding fair treatment for Khan, who famously captained Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup.
An investigation ordered by the Supreme Court of Pakistan found that Khan, who transitioned from cricket to politics, has reportedly lost around 85 percent of the vision in one eye.
Lawyer Salman Safdar, appointed by the Supreme Court, stated in his report that Khan had been complaining of blurred vision to prison authorities for several months. His vision was reportedly normal until October 2025, after which he suddenly experienced significant vision loss in his right eye.
An eye specialist from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) was called in for examination. Doctors reportedly found blood clotting in his eye, causing severe damage. Despite treatment and injections, his right eye now retains only about 15 percent vision.
Khan has claimed that he has not been allowed to seek treatment from a private doctor.
