Patan (Lalitpur): Chief Secretary Suman Raj Aryal has emphasized that administrative leaders must be held accountable to promote good governance in the country.
Addressing a workshop organized to prepare a “Roadmap for Good Governance” at the Nepal Administrative Staff College in Jawalakhel on Wednesday, Chief Secretary Aryal said that delays in service delivery have, in some cases, cost people their lives. He stressed that good governance can be achieved even by improving basic and routine administrative practices.
The workshop was organized by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Highlighting the importance of timely public services, Aryal said accountability among leadership is essential to restore public trust in the administration.
Executive Director of the Nepal Administrative Staff College, Ram Sharan Pudasainee, said that problems related to development pace and public service delivery must first be acknowledged in order to ensure good governance. He added that accepting shortcomings and working toward reforms is key to improving administrative performance.
The program was attended by all secretaries of the Government of Nepal and joint secretaries based in the Kathmandu Valley. Participants held group discussions on necessary reforms in service delivery, improvements in employee conduct, and efforts to reduce bureaucratic hassles. The discussions concluded with recommendations for reforms to be implemented by concerned ministries and offices.
