Mahendranagar: A total of 481 polling stations in Sudurpashchim Province have been classified as highly sensitive from a security perspective ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21.
Considering the upcoming election, Sudurpashchim Police have categorized polling stations across the province’s 16 electoral constituencies into three groups: normal, sensitive, and highly sensitive.
Sudurpashchim Province comprises nine districts. Of the 16 constituencies, eight are located in the Terai region, including five in Kailali and three in Kanchanpur, while the remaining eight constituencies lie across seven hilly districts. Achham has two constituencies, whereas each of the other six hill districts has one constituency, according to the Sudurpashchim Province Police Office in Dhangadhi.
The provincial police office said security agencies are actively implementing election-focused security strategies. Security committees are functioning at both provincial and district levels to ensure effective coordination.
Out of a total of 1,176 polling stations in the province, 300 have been classified as normal, 395 as sensitive, and 481 as highly sensitive. There are 2,199 polling centers across Sudurpashchim Province.
Kailali district has the highest number of highly sensitive polling stations in the province. District Police Office Kailali Chief Superintendent of Police Narendra Chand said that 108 polling stations in the district have been categorized as highly sensitive.
“Security arrangements will be strengthened accordingly at highly sensitive polling stations,” Chand said, adding that detailed security plans have been prepared for all electoral constituencies in the district.
Similarly, in Kanchanpur, 66 out of 132 polling stations have been listed as highly sensitive, according to the District Police Office, while 62 out of 77 polling stations in the hilly district of Bajura have also been categorized as highly sensitive.
For election security, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, election police personnel, and the Nepal Army will be deployed in outer security perimeters. The provincial police office stated that more than 7,000 Nepal Police personnel alone will be mobilized.
A total of 206 candidates, including independents and representatives from political parties, are contesting for 16 House of Representatives seats in Sudurpashchim Province.
