Koshi Province, June 11 – Life in the Terai districts of Koshi Province has been severely affected in recent days due to an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring well above seasonal averages. The scorching conditions have disrupted daily routines, with vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers most at risk.
In response to the rising temperatures, several municipalities across the province — including Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City — have taken precautionary measures by announcing the temporary closure of schools. Local authorities stated that the decision aims to safeguard students’ health and prevent potential cases of heat-related illnesses.
“We are prioritizing the well-being of our children. With temperatures reaching critical levels, continuing school activities would pose unnecessary health risks,” said a representative from Itahari Municipality.
Health officials have advised residents to stay indoors during peak hours, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. Hospitals have also been placed on alert to handle any heatstroke-related emergencies.
Meteorologists warn that the extreme heat may persist for several more days and urge the public to take necessary precautions.
