Madhesh Province, June 11 – A relentless heatwave sweeping across Nepal’s Madhesh Province has made daily life increasingly difficult for residents, with temperatures climbing to dangerous levels over the past several days.
The extreme heat has disrupted normal routines in multiple districts, forcing people to remain indoors during the hottest parts of the day. Markets, streets, and public spaces that are usually bustling have seen a significant drop in activity as the region grapples with the oppressive weather.
Health experts have reported a surge in cases of heat exhaustion and dehydration, especially among children, the elderly, and outdoor laborers. Local hospitals and clinics are on high alert, urging the public to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun.
Several schools and government offices have shortened working hours, while some municipalities are considering full closures if the heat persists.
“This kind of intense heat is very unusual and dangerous. We are monitoring the situation closely,” said a local government official.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast continued high temperatures in the coming days and has issued a public advisory to remain cautious.
