Tensions in the Middle East have reached a dangerous new height as Iran and Israel launched a series of missile and drone attacks against each other, marking one of the most intense confrontations between the two nations in recent history.
According to reports, Iran fired multiple ballistic missiles at Israeli targets in retaliation for earlier Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites. Simultaneously, Israel responded with drone assaults and airstrikes aimed at key Iranian installations, including suspected nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Fordow.
Air raid sirens echoed across several Israeli cities, and explosions were reported in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, where plumes of black smoke were seen rising into the sky. At least 40 people have been injured in Israel, with three confirmed dead. In Tehran, explosions and fire were also reported, further evidence of Israeli strikes penetrating Iranian territory.
Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations stated that Israeli strikes have killed 78 people since Friday, including high-ranking military officials, and wounded over 320 others, most of them civilians. Meanwhile, Iran claims to have hit “dozens of military targets” inside Israel, including airports and defense bases.
U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Iran to return to nuclear negotiations, warning of an even harsher Israeli response if it refuses.
As missile and drone attacks continue from both sides, fears of a full-scale regional war are mounting, with the international community urging restraint to avoid a catastrophic escalation.
