Kathmandu – Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, dozens of Palestinians have been reported dead and many more injured following an Israeli strike near a humanitarian aid center in Gaza.
The deadly incident occurred close to a relief center operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an organization backed by Israel and the United States.
According to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health in Gaza, at least 45 people were killed in the Israeli gunfire. Witnesses stated that Israeli forces opened fire near a junction in eastern Khan Younis, where thousands of Palestinians had gathered in hopes of receiving food parcels from the GHF center.
Observers have described this as potentially the deadliest single shooting incident near aid distribution sites in Gaza, where such violence has become a tragic daily occurrence.
On Monday, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk condemned the attack, accusing Israel of weaponizing food and calling for an independent investigation into the shooting near GHF centers.
Since the outbreak of hostilities on October 7, 2023, more than 55,000 people are reported to have been killed in Gaza.
