Kathmandu – Leading members of the U.S. Democratic Party and international leaders have sharply condemned President Donald Trump’s unilateral airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling the action a serious violation of constitutional and international norms.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez strongly criticized the strikes, calling them a “grave violation of the Constitution and Congress’s war powers.” She suggested the move could serve as grounds for impeachment, writing on X, “He acted rashly, risking a war that could entangle us for years.”
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib echoed the concern, calling the attacks a “blatant breach of the U.S. Constitution.” She urged Congress to intervene immediately, warning, “We’ve already seen where decades of endless war in the Middle East — based on false claims of ‘weapons of mass destruction’ — has led us. We won’t fall into that trap again.”
Representative Jim McGovern condemned the operation as “madness,” stating, “Trump bombed Iran without congressional approval, dragging us into another illegal war in the Middle East. Haven’t we learned anything?”
The backlash is not limited to U.S. lawmakers. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres also expressed deep concern about the escalating conflict. In a statement posted to his X (formerly Twitter) account, he wrote, “I am deeply troubled by the U.S. military action against Iran today. This step risks further destabilizing an already fragile region and poses a direct threat to international peace and security.”
Guterres warned that the conflict could quickly spiral out of control and lead to widespread harm to civilians, regional stability, and global order. He called on all UN member states to act responsibly and urged strict adherence to the UN Charter and international law.
“There is no military solution to this crisis,” Guterres emphasized. “Diplomacy is the only path forward, and peace is our only hope.”
As tensions between the U.S., Iran, and Israel continue to rise, calls for restraint and dialogue are growing louder, both within America and around the world.
