Jerusalem – Tensions in the Middle East escalated further on Sunday after Iran launched two missiles into central Israel in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes on its nuclear facilities. According to Israeli rescue services and reports, at least 16 people were injured, with direct hits confirmed at one location.
Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service issued a statement confirming the casualties:
“Sixteen people have been transported to hospitals. Among them is a 30-year-old man who is in moderate condition after being wounded in the upper body by missile shrapnel.”
The missile attacks occurred around 7:30 a.m. local time (0430 GMT). Israel’s public broadcaster KAN 11 aired images of a severely damaged building in central Israel, surrounded by rubble and debris.
Air raid sirens sounded nationwide moments before the impact, warning of incoming missile threats. Israel’s air defense systems quickly activated, with loud explosions reported in both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
In the northern region near Haifa Port, police reported falling missile debris, prompting emergency responders to rush to affected areas. Local authorities confirmed they were assessing damage and providing emergency assistance.
Due to strict military censorship laws, details on the strikes are limited. However, Israeli officials have confirmed that since the outbreak of conflict with Iran on June 13, the country has been hit by at least 50 missile strikes, resulting in 25 fatalities.
The cities of Tel Aviv, Be’er Sheva, and Haifa remain the most frequently targeted by Iranian missile and drone attacks.
According to the Israeli military, its advanced air defense systems have successfully intercepted over 450 missiles and nearly 1,000 drones since hostilities began, showcasing the scale and intensity of the conflict now gripping the region.
