Siraha: The educational condition of Golbazar Municipality in Siraha district has hit an alarming low. The recently published Secondary Education Examination (SEE) results have exposed the dismal state of community schools in the area, showing a drastic fall in academic standards.
Janata Model Secondary School, Choharwa, which has been receiving over a crore rupees annually in government grants for the past seven years as a “model school,” has delivered a shockingly poor performance. Out of 106 students who appeared for the SEE exam from this school, only 17 managed to pass, while a staggering 89 students failed, receiving non-graded (NG) status.
Even among the 17 who passed, only 13 students secured grades high enough to qualify for admission into their desired Plus Two programs. The remaining four barely made it through with low grades, further raising concerns about the school’s academic environment.
Local education activist Ramchandra Singh expressed deep frustration over the situation. “There is no shortage of teachers at the school, but the teaching quality is extremely poor. Most teachers are busy serving political interests, especially those linked with the UML party and Choharwa Palace politics,” Singh said.
He added, “Despite having all necessary resources, the learning level at Choharwa school remains very low. Unqualified teachers have been transferred here under political influence. Some teachers, being relatives of political leaders, spend more time in party activities than in classrooms. How can we expect quality education in such an environment? For the academic improvement of the school, it must be freed from the control of Choharwa Palace’s political network.”
When asked for a comment, Principal Brahmadev Mahto admitted the school’s failure. “Yes, our results are poor this year. What can I say? There’s nothing left to explain,” he stated, declining further remarks.
The current situation has left parents and education stakeholders deeply worried about the future of the students and the overall quality of education in the region.
