Makwanpur Tightens Alcohol Ban Ahead of House of Representatives Election
Hetauda — As the House of Representatives election 2026 approaches, authorities in Makwanpur district have intensified enforcement of the alcohol sales and distribution ban.
The Makwanpur District Administration Office had issued a notice on Falgun 14 instructing that no alcohol should be sold or distributed in the district until the final election results are announced on Falgun 21.
To ensure strict compliance, the District Security Committee has been actively monitoring businesses. During inspections, authorities have confirmed that no shops or hotels are allowed to sell alcohol, and all hotels and shops must close by 9:00 pm.
The monitoring team was led by Chief District Officer Basanta Adhikari and included Deputy Chief District Officer Mohanraj Joshi, Superintendent of Police Shyam Bahadur Khatri from Makwanpur District Police Office, Superintendent Naveen Khadka of Armed Police Force, 14th Battalion Hetauda, and representatives from other relevant agencies.
The administration has warned that any violation of the ban or operating hotels and shops beyond permitted hours will result in legal action. Authorities have urged business owners and the public to fully comply with the rules to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and fair election.
